Command Line "Statistics" or "Advanced Statistics"

Postby rgusick » Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:42 pm

I've inherited a legacy system with hundreds of DBF files scattered throughout the filesystem with little to no documentation (or source code). I ultimately plan on migrating the data to SQL Server, but first I need to know what/where data I have.

Is there a way to generate the output from "Statistics" or "Advanced Statistics" from the command line so that I can script something to give me some insight into what is out there?

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Hi Robert,
you can use an SQL query in batch mode to extract the data you need. More info is available here.

I'm confused. If all I have is hundreds of DBF files that I don't know anything about, what query can I run to just get the column names? Even a "SELECT TOP 1 ...." required an "ORDER BY", but I don't know in advance any columns to sort on!

What data you need to get from these files?
The field list is only available through the 'File Structure' dialog in GUI.
