XML Import. Problems from the start.

Hi Elphsoft!

I have very limited exposure to XML. I understand the cells and the basic hierarchy, however I do not have a handle on all the other intrinsic coding available in XML file types...

I downloaded the Professional Trial version, and I am trying to import a single record XML file to play with your software. I can not pass you the data, since there may be some live data in it, however besides embedded XLM data, here's the only header on the file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<heexns:claimExtract xmlns:heexns="http://myserver.com/extract" >
<EOBPaymentInformation>

I have changed the http: address since I can not share the client yet... however you can see the first two entries, and then the main cell name for the data.

When attempting to import using your software I immediately get the error: WRONG FILE FORMAT, ERROR LIST INDEX OUR OF BOUNDS(2).

Can you tell me what that is... perhaps this client did not send me a actual XML table with 1 entry????

I'm very intrigued by your product, and would like to play with it.

If I understand some of your web site, there is the possibility I can use your product at the command line on a production level basis to import these datasets using a script set up on my server?

Please let me know. THANKS! Bill

Hi Bill,
thanks for your question!

Yes, you can use DBF Commander Pro command line in order to load XML to DBF in batch.

For this purpose, the main thing you need to do - you should prepare a map-file as bescribed at the article http://dbf-software.com/how-to/convert-xml-to-dbf.html

If you find this process difficult, I can prepare the map file for you. But in this case I need a sample XML file. You can replace all confident data with any values you want, and then attach it to an email.
Also, I'll need empty result DBF file in order to know what of XML data should be used as a row in DBF.

After all, if you want to prepare the map-file by yourself, please do not hesitate to use our Forum in order to ask questions.

The XML header you've provided doesn't have any influence on the converting process. If your XML file is correct - it can be converted. Please try to open your XML in your web browser - it should opens without any error.
If the 'wrong file' error is still presents, then I need your XML file, DBF map file, DBF result file, and the command line you are trying to execute. Again, you can replace confident data, but I can assure you that your data won't be shared to ANYONE.

Hi Oleg!

Here's my next question before working on the DEFINE table for the Database.

The XML database is set up as a Parent/Child Table for EACH Records in the table.

Here is my sample In XML

Dining Check
Total
$500
/Total
Owes
Person
Name
Bill
/Name
Amount
$100
/Amount
/Person
Person
Name
Oleg
/Name
Amount
$400
/Amount
/Person
/Owes
/Dining Check
Dining Check
Total
$300
/Total
Owes
Person
Name
Sue
/Name
Amount
$200
/Amount
/Person
Person
Name
Frank
/Name
Amount
$100
/Amount
/Person
/Owes
/Dining Check

That XML Feed is actually 2 tables.

first Parent Table:

Dining Check

Entries
$500
$300

Child Table Owes

Entries
$500 - Bill $100
$500 - Oleg $400
$300 - Sue $200
$300 - Frank $100

Can you explain how Commander can get this data into either TWO TABLES or ONE TABLE?

Bill

It's for you to decide how the result DBF file will be look like:
one Dining check per row - 'Dining Check -> Total' in the map-file,
or one Person per row - 'Dining Check -> Owes -> Person' in the map-file.
