DBF Field names get clipped

Postby deecee » Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:49 pm

Alpha5 allows longer field names. As an example "LASTWORKARCHIVE". DBF Commander allows me to view the data & view the structure BUT the longer field names become clippped. Once this is done, my application written in Alpah5's language will NO longer run. Alpha5 is referred to as an XBase app and uses the format DBF & FPT. Does anyone know how to get around the field name clipping?

BIG thanks.

deecee,
this is a peculiarity of the DBF-file internal format. E.g., you can see it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/st4a0s68%28VS.80%29.aspx

Field name with a maximum of 10 characters. If less than 10, it is padded with null characters (0x00).

So, there is the only way to name fields up to maximum 10 characters.
